John Cullen

Statistical Consultant in Clinical Research | PhD Candidate in Maritime Studies

My work and research interests include cognitive performance, decision-making, fatigue, safety, well-being, and clinical research.

Applied research and statistical consulting

I work as a statistical consultant in Memorial University’s Faculty of Medicine and am completing a PhD in Maritime Studies. My work combines statistical consulting with research on how people think, decide, and perform under demanding conditions.

In clinical research, I work with investigators, medical residents, and research teams on study design, data management, statistical analysis, interpretation, and reporting. I work primarily in R and aim to match the analysis to the research question, study design, and limitations of the data.

My research interests include fatigue, workload, cognitive performance, decision-making, safety, and well-being. My doctoral work has focused on maritime settings, but the broader questions also apply to knowledge work and other occupations where people must maintain attention, manage competing demands, and make sound decisions. I successfully defended my dissertation in June 2026 and am completing the final revisions required by the School of Graduate Studies.
